Cardinals Drop Opening Match, Round Two Halted by Darkness in Florida

Morgan Lewis wins match in BSU’s first-round loss to Florida Atlantic
DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Ball State women's golf team dropped its opening-round match to Florida Atlantic at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational, and the second round was suspended by darkness Thursday evening.
The Cardinals fell to the Owls, 4-2, to open the event on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Morgan Lewis won a full point for Ball State, while Manon Tounalom and Emily Knouff halved their matches to account for the team's second point.
Play was suspended during the second nine of the afternoon round, with the Cardinals trailing in all six matches to nationally-ranked Division II squad Saint Leo.
Saint Leo won its opening match over Princeton, the highest-rated of the five D-I teams in the field, by a 4-2 margin. James Madison took down Omaha, 5.5 to 0.5, in the other first-round match.
Florida Atlantic holds a half-point lead on Omaha in the second round, while Princeton leads in four of its six matches with James Madison.
The second round will resume Friday at 8:30 a.m., and the final round will follow.
Matchups for each of the three rounds were predetermined. Teams earn one point for winning the team match and half a point for tying it. The team with the most points after the three rounds is the champion.
