Grad student Penny honored after leading BSU to win over Western
CLEVELAND - Jordyn Penny was voted MAC Gymnast of the Week after leading Ball State gymnastics to a dual meet win on Sunday.Â
Penny, a grad student from Aurora, Illinois, helped the team to a school record and also recorded a first place individual routine. She was the meet's top placer on the beam, scoring a career-best mark of 9.875. She tied for third on bars with a 9.800 and her 9.800 on vault helped Ball State capture a team school record mark (49.175) in vault.
This honor from the league is the first for a Gym Card since Denashia Christian won the award on Jan. 19, 2016. Two other Cardinals were specialist of the week in March 2016.Â
"This is a well-deserved recognition for this young woman," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "She has consistently exceptional throughout her career here at Ball State."
In what was the 2019 home opener for Ball State, Penny and the Cardinals won the team scoring 194.475 - 193.400. Ball State will compete at Bowling Green Friday, Feb. 8.Â
