MUNCIE, Ind. - - After helping guide the Ball State women's volleyball team to a pair of league wins over the weekend, freshman opposite Allison Hamaker and senior setter Amber Seaman were honored by the Mid-American Conference Monday afternoon.
Â
Hamaker was named the MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Seaman earned MAC West Division Setter of the Week honors for the sixth time in her career.
Â
A native of Lombard, Illinois, Hamaker blasted 4.00 kills per set and hitting an astonishing .468 (28-6-47) for the Cardinals last week. In Friday's sweep of NIU, she smashed nine kills and hit .412 (9-2-17). She followed with a career-high 19 kills and connected at a .500 (19-4-30) clip in Saturday's four-set win over Western Michigan.
Â
"Allison had a great weekend," head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said. "She competes hard and takes big swings. She's getting more confident every weekend and is really starting to understand what shot to hit in different situations, which is allowing her to hit at a higher percentage."
Â
A product of Carmel, Indiana, Seaman had the Cardinals firing on all cylinders last weekend as the team hit a combined .284 (113-31-289) over the two wins. She started by leading the Ball State offense to a season-best .387 (50-9-106) rate of success in Friday's sweep of the Huskies. The reigning MAC Setter of the Year, Seaman dished out 43 assists and added three kills of her own in the match.
Â
She followed by guiding the Cardinals to a .224 (63-22-183) rate of success in Saturday's win over the Broncos. She handed out 48 assists in the victory, while scoring four kills and adding nine digs. For the week, Seaman averaged 13.00 assists per set and had the offense connecting for 16.14 kills per set. She also served up five of Ball State's eight service aces and averaged 1.57 digs per set.Â
Â
"This was Amber's best weekend of the year so far," Phillips said. "She was getting her feet to the ball and consistently putting our hitters in great situations. The hitters had a ton of confidence going to attack because she was giving them such great sets."
Â
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to the road for its next four conference matches, starting Friday (Oct. 11) with a 6 p.m. showdown at MAC-leading Central Michigan. The Chippewas enter the contest with a 14-2 (4-0 MAC) record and on a nine-match winning streak.
