Men's Tennis Suffers Heartbreaking Loss To Michigan State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals led the entire match today against Big Ten foe Michigan State. Unfortunately, Ball State couldn't hold onto to its once 3-0 lead over the Spartans, suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 loss after Chris Adams fell in a three set thriller on court five to Carson Gates.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 0-2 on the season, both BSU losses were to Big Ten opponents. Michigan State improved its overall record to 4-2.
The Cardinals breezed through doubles play to take the early 1-0 edge over the Spartans. First off the court, was the No. 2 doubles tandem of Tom Carney and Danilo Kovacevic. The twosome defeated Ivan Rakic and Carson Gates, 6-2. Conner Andersen and Chris Adams paired up at the No. 3 spot, clinching the point for BSU after their 6-4 take down over Billy Shisler and Nick Williams.
Ball State kept its momentum going at the start of singles play. Kovacevic put the Cardinals up 2-0 after his straight set victory on court three. Marko Guzina followed with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat over John Carlin to give Ball State a 3-0 cushion with three matches remaining.
But Michigan State came back strong taking the remaining matches in three sets for the victory.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues spring play at home Saturday, Feb. 2, against Xavier at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
