Williams-Lambert Gets Another NFL Shot, Signs Deal with Chicago Bears
January 23, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Jordan Williams-Lambert, a former Ball State standout wide receiver, is getting a second shot at playing in the top level of professional football. He recently signed a reserve/future deal with the NFL's Chicago Bears.
Williams-Lambert began his professional career in 2016 when he signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2016 season on the Saints' practice squad roster but was released in August 2017.
The Indianapolis, Indiana, native then earned an invitation to the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp in the spring of 2018. Williams-Lambert impressed during camp and secured a spot on Saskatchewan's regular season roster. He went on to appear in 17 regular season games, record 764 receiving yards and finish with a team-high 62 catches. Williams-Lambert also tied for the team lead with four touchdown catches. For his efforts, he was honored as the CFL West Division Most Outstanding Rookie.
The Chicago Bears took notice of Williams-Lambert's 2018 season and agreed to a deal with him on Jan. 18. Williams-Lambert will be added to the Bears' roster when the roster expands from 53 to 90 players on the first day of the NFL's 2019 business year, which is March 13.
Williams-Lambert was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference honoree who left Ball State following the 2015 season with his name etched throughout the program's record books. He ranks fifth in Ball State history in career receiving yards (2,723), tied for third in touchdown receptions (24) and fifth in career receptions (200). As a senior, he tallied a season-high 133 yards receiving and two touchdowns at No. 17 Northwestern.
