Soccer Welcomes Eastern Illinois for Friday Exhibition
August 09, 2018 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – As the Ball State University soccer team continues its preparation for the fast-approaching 2018 season, it now gets its first opportunity to see where it stands when Eastern Illinois comes to Muncie on Friday for an exhibition.
Â
The match will kick off at 4 p.m. at Briner Sports Complex. The game is open to the public and admission is free.
Â
Eager to build on their previous success, coach Craig Roberts and his team made their way back to campus and began training last week. The team has been working hard and having fun on and off the pitch as it looks to build chemistry for the upcoming campaign.
Â
The Cardinals are fresh off their third consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division title and will rely on a returning core of 10 seniors to maintain a championship level of play. Thirteen newcomers will also look to make their mark and contribute for Ball State.
Â
Eastern Illinois is coming off a 5-12-2 record in 2017 and looking to improve under first-year head coach Jake Plant. The Panthers compete in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Â
Friday's contest will serve as the lone tune up before the regular season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 17. Ball State will travel up the road to take on Purdue Fort Wayne in game one of a six-game road trip. The Cardinals' home opener will be on Friday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m.
