Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball head coach Kelli Miller has announced the team's 2018 schedule, highlighted by home matches versus Northern Iowa and Indiana as part of the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge (Sept. 7-8).
Opening weekend will see the Cardinals compete at the Dayton Invitational (Aug. 24-25) with matches versus South Alabama, the host Flyers and Marshall. Dayton has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in nine of the past 11 seasons and has won eight Atlantic 10 regular season championships during the run.
The second weekend will see the Cardinals travel to Missouri State for the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Tournament (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) to play matches versus Grambling State, Oral Roberts and the host Bears. An NCAA Tournament participant in each of the last three seasons, Missouri State has been to the dance 10 times in the past 15 years.
The Cardinals open the home portion of the 2018 season the third weekend with the aforementioned Ball State Active Ankle Challenge. First up is Northern Iowa, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season in its third straight trip and 21st overall. After closing the first day of the event versus North Dakota State, Ball State welcomes in-state rival Indiana to Worthen Arena for the first time since 1996 on day two.
The Cardinals follow with a midweek home showdown versus another in-state rival in IUPUI (Sept. 11). Ball State closes the non-conference portion of the 2018 season the following weekend at the Tiger Invitational (Sept. 14-15) hosted by Towson. There, the Cardinals will face UMBC, the host Tigers and La Salle.
Ball State opens its 16-game Mid-American Conference slate with road matches at Western Michigan (Sept. 21) and Northern Illinois (Sept. 22). During league action, the Cardinals will play home-and-home matches versus each of the other five MAC West Division programs, while facing each MAC East Division squad once.
The 2018 MAC Volleyball Championship runs Nov. 15-18 at defending MAC regular season champion Miami. The winner of the eight-team MAC Tournament earns the league's automatic berth into the 38th Annual NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship which begins Thursday, Nov. 29 at campus sites.
