Softball’s Miles Claims Fifth MAC Weekly Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - After turning in another brilliant weekend at Toledo, Ball State softball junior starting pitcher Aeshia Miles has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season.
The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native closed the regular season with a pair of dominating performances against the Rockets to help guide the Cardinals to the second seed in the MAC Softball Championship and a share of the MAC West Division Title.
Over 13.1 innings of work, Miles turned in a perfect 0.00 ERA and allowed just five hits to limit Toledo's batters to a .109 average. She also struck out nine batters over her two appearances in the circle.
"I can't say enough about Aeshia," head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said. "She is such an incredible competitor. She refused to give in to Toledo's hitters all weekend and turned in a pair of gutsy performances."
In the series opener, Miles picked up her ninth win in MAC play, and 18th on the year, by throwing the first 6.0 innings and limiting Toledo to three hits and no runs. She also struck out three batters in the game.
Then, entering a must-win situation in Saturday's nightcap, Miles took it up a notch by no-hitting the Rockets through the first 7.1 innings to help Ball State secure its share of the MAC West Division Title and the No. 2 seed in the league tournament. She struck out six batters and yielded just one unearned run in the eighth inning.
Miles and the Ball State softball team open their quest for the program's fourth MAC Tournament title Wednesday, when they battle Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
