
Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory Over Mercer

Macon, Ga. - The Ball State University women's tennis team closed its spring break action in Georgia when it posted a 6-1 victory over Mercer Wednesday afternoon to improve its overall record to 7-4 on the season.
For the second straight match, the Cardinals took the doubles point from the Bears earning wins on courts one and two. Mercer took the first match from Ball State but Peyton Gollhofer and Lilya Hadab quickly fought back for the Cardinals to even doubles play with a 7-5 win over Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet at the No. 3 spot. The top court then clinched the point for Ball State after Julia Sbircea and teammate Isabelle Dohanics took down the Bears Celine Schepers and Grace Korta, 6-4.
In single action, Victoria Sec quickly won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles over Anna Sovic to give Ball State a 2-0 advantage over Mercer. The Bears then earned their first point after earning a victory on the top court. After that, the Cardinals took the remainder of the matches from Mercer and would take the victory from the Bears with Rebecca Herrington's 6-4, 6-2, take down over Gutierrez at the No. 5 slot.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action on the road at Dayton on March 16 at 1 p.m.
