Diving the Highlight of Day Two of the MAC Championships For Ball State

ATHENS, Ohio –The Ball State women's swimming and diving team competed in days one and two of the MAC Championships this week, finishing with 89 points so far.
The Championships kicked off on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with the Cardinals competing in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Audrey Schank, Amanda Kedzierski, Andrea Richter and Peighton Gilbert came together to post a time of 1:42.92, earning 22 points. In the 800 freestyle relay, Ball State also earned 22 points. Sophie Bader, Kayla Molnar, Liz Madison and Amanda Kedzierski made up the squad for that event and finished with a time of 7:38.09.
Rachel Smallwood and Rachel Bertram both advanced to the finals of the 1-meter dive, marking the first time two divers made it in the top 8 since at least 2002. In the prelims, Smallwood posted a score of 249.40 earning the seventh place spot. She went on to score 265.30 in the finals to earn eighth. Bertram earned a score 247.85 in prelims and went on to score 275.50 in the finals. That finals score earned her seventh place and 12 points for the Cardinals.
"Those two dived really well tonight," said diving coach Nick Gayes. "It was a very competitive finals and no one missed. It was a lot of fun and we are hoping to ride that momentum into the 3-meter tomorrow."
Day two ended with an eight place finish for the Cardinals in the 200 freestyle relay. A time of 1:35.13 was posted by Gilbert, Lauren Elston, Richter, and Anne Vormohr.
