Three-year graduate shares school record for career 3-pointers
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men's basketball senior Sean Sellers was named to the Academic All-District First Team on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Â
Sellers, who tied the Cardinals' career 3-point record this week, graduated in three years from Ball State with a degree in sport administration. He now owns a 3.67 GPA in the secondary education master's program.
Â
The Greensburg, Indiana, product and former MAC Freshman of the Year is a two-time Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete selection.
Â
Sellers was one of 41 Division I players in the country to earn Academic All-District recognition this season and the first BSU player named to the team since Dennis Trammell in 2005.
Â
He was named to the first team for District 5, along with Nate Fowler of Butler, Seth Dugan of Western Michigan, Marcus Bartley of Southern Illinois and Clayton Custer of Loyola Chicago. All are now candidates for Academic All-America honors.
Â
Sellers is averaging 8.7 points and a career-high 4.3 rebounds this season, helping Ball State to a record of 19-9 (10-5 MAC) entering Friday's game against Western Michigan.
Â
With a pair of 3-pointers Tuesday against Northern Illinois, Sellers moved into a share of the top spot on the Cardinals' all-time list with Jesse Berry at 224. His is a career 41 percent shooter from beyond the arc.
Â
Sellers became the 30th player to score 1,000 points in a Ball State uniform earlier this season and now owns 1,108 career points. He is just four games shy of matching Franko House's school record for career games played (129).
Â
Sellers and the Cardinals have won five straight games and are looking for a third consecutive 20-win season and postseason appearance. They close out the home schedule Friday at 9 p.m. against Western Michigan with Senior Night and the annual #MuncieOut game. The contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
