Senior big man is one of 30 men’s hoops player across the country up for the award
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men's basketball player Trey Moses was named one of 30 candidates nationwide for the 2018-19 Senior CLASS Award for his notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
Moses and his fellow candidates were selected from nominees across the country. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
Moses notably has a passion for those with Down syndrome. He has been involved in the Best Buddies program since his high school days and continues to organize basketball camps each year for kids with special needs. On campus, he is heavily involved with the Dance Marathon program, which raises money for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Â
The Louisville native will graduate in the spring with a degree in child development. He is working this semester as a teacher's assistant at the Child Study Center, a preschool near the Ball State campus, and will intern in the spring at Cardinal Clubhouse, a local preschool and daycare facility.
Â
A favorite at Worthen Arena for his personality and interaction with Ball State fans, Moses has played a big role in the resurgence of a BSU program that has averaged better than 20 wins per season during his career.
Â
The big man was a third-team All-MAC selection as a junior and a MAC All-Defensive Team choice as a sophomore. He is nearing the 1,000-point mark for his career and recently moved into second on Ball State's all-time list for blocked shots with 117. He also ranks among the top 10 in rebounding in program history and owns more than 200 assists from his post position.
Â
Moses is the only Mid-American Conference player on this year's list and one of two from Indiana schools, joining Indiana's Juwan Morgan.
Â
The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans.Â
Â
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men's Final Four in the spring. For more information on each of the candidates, visit seniorclassaward.com.
