Volleyball Swept at Central Michigan
November 02, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - - Despite a match-high 13 kills from senior outside attacker Ellie Dunn, the Ball State women's volleyball team could never find its rhythm in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) loss to Central Michigan in Mid-American Conference play Friday night at McGuirk Arena.
Â
The Cardinals (19-7, 10-3 MAC) were limited to a .162 (38-20-111) attack percentage in the loss, while the Chippewas (6-19, 3-10 MAC) connected for a .242 (45-16-120) rate of success to pick up their third win in the last four matches.
Â
"It was a tough night all around for us," Ball State head coach Kelli Miller said. "CMU came into the match on a hot streak and took advantage of our inconsistent effort and performance. The MAC is a tough league and we have seen numerous times this season you can't have an off night, you have to give it your all every time you step on the court."
Â
Aside from Dunn's match-high 13 kills, junior middle Sydnee VanBeek turned in the best all-around performance for the Cardinals, smashing 10 kills and hitting .444 (10-2-18). She also tallied a service as and two blocks.
Â
Junior setter Amber Seaman paced all players with three aces, raising her career total to 104 which moves her into sole possession of 15th on Ball State's career list. She also handed out 23 assists and secured four digs.
Â
Junior libero Kate Avila paced the Cardinals backcourt with 12 digs, extending her streak of matches with double-digit digs to 55 and raising her career total to 84. She also raised her career digs total to 1,566 which ranks sixth in program history and leaves her 14 shy of passing Amanda McCormick's (2005-06) career total of 1,579 for fifth on BSU's career charts.
Â
At the net, redshirt senior middle Meg Starling registered a team-high five total blocks, including a pair of solo stuff. The effort raised her season blocks-per-set average to 1.26 which ranks her in the top 50 nationally.
Â
Savannah Thompson and Lyza Myers led the Central Michigan attack with 12 kills apiece, while Megan Kern collected a match-high 13 digs.
Â
The Ball State women's volleyball team will look to rebound Saturday night when it visits Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. first serve at the Convocation Center.
