Track & Field Announces 2018-19 Schedules
October 09, 2018 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind.-- For the second time in five years, the attention of the entire Mid-American Conference will be focused on University Track in the Briner Sports Complex when the Ball State track & field program hosts the 2019 MAC Outdoor Championships May 9-11, 2019.
Â
That was just one of the highlights announced today by head coach Brian Etelman, who released the program's schedules for both the 2018-19 indoor and outdoor campaigns.
Â
The Cardinals officially begin their indoor season Dec. 1, 2018 at the Bowling Green Opener. Following a month off for training and the semester break, BSU's student-athletes return to action Jan. 11-12, 2019 at the Kentucky Invitational.
Â
The early portion of the indoor campaign will also see Ball State travel to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational (Jan. 18-19), the Tom Hathaway Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis (Jan. 25-26), the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame (Feb. 1-2) and the Doug Raymond National Qualifier hosted by Kent State (Feb. 9).
Â
The Cardinals will then host the Ball State Tune-Up (Feb. 15) in the BSU Field Sports Building in its final tune-up before the MAC Indoor Championships hosted by Kent State (Feb. 22-23). The 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships follow, running March 8-9 at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
Ball State will open the 2019 outdoor season by making its fourth consecutive appearance in the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler (March 16). Three more road meets follow in the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt (March 22-23), the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State (March 29-30) and the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by Cincinnati (April 5-6).
Â
The Cardinals break up the travel the following weekend by hosting the seventh annual Ball State Challenge (April 12-13) at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex. Last year's edition of the meet was the biggest yet, with 40 teams and over 820 student-athletes competing in the weather-shortened, one-day meet.
Â
Over the following two weeks, Ball State will send student-athletes to the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn (April 19-20), the Kentucky Invitational (April 20) and the Lenny Lyles / Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville (April 26-27).
Â
All the action will culminate May 9-11, when the Cardinals host the MAC Outdoor Championships for the second time since the 2015 season. At last season's MAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Buffalo, 10 different Cardinals helped account for 49.5 points which was more points than Ball State scored in the previous four championships combined (49). The best part, all 10 student-athletes who scored are back this season.
Â
Following the MAC Championships, Ball State will look to send competitors to both the NCAA East Preliminary Championship at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida (May 23-25) and the NCAA Championship at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas (June 5-8).
Â
Last season, Regan Lewis placed eighth in the high jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships and went on to earn Second Team All-America honors after finishing 10th in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
