Seaman Earns Third Straight MAC West Setter of the Week Honor
October 15, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For the third straight week, and fourth time this season, Ball State women's volleyball junior setter Amber Seaman has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Setter of the Week.
Â
Seaman had another outstanding week running the Ball State offense, averaging 12.29 assists per set and guiding the team to a combined .267 (100-30-262) attack percentage in wins over Ohio (Oct. 12) and Kent State (Oct. 13).Â
On top of her strong setting performance, the Carmel, Indiana, native served up nine total aces, while averaging 1.29 blocks per set and 2.00 digs per set. Her effort helped the Cardinals improve to 16-5 on the year and to 7-1 in MAC play which is tied for first overall in the league standings.
Seaman opened the week by guiding the Cardinals to their first home win over Ohio since the 2010 season, dishing out 46 assists and serving up a career-high six aces in the four-set victory. Her six aces are the most for a Ball State player since then-setter Brittany McGinnis (2008-11) tallied seven versus Central Michigan on Nov. 12, 2011. Seaman also tallied five block assists in the match, while earning eight digs and a kill.
She followed by leading the Ball State offense to a .360 (49-9-111) attack percentage in a sweep of Kent State, handing out 40 assists while guiding a trio of Cardinals to double-digit kills. She also served up three more aces, while collecting four more blocks (two solo and two assists) and six more digs.
Â
With her nine service aces on the weekend, Seaman raised her career total to 94 which leaves her five shy of moving into the top 20 in program history and six shy of becoming just the 19th player in program history to reach 100 career aces.
Â
In addition, with her 86 assists last week, Seaman raised her career total to 2,869 and is eight assists shy of passing her predecessor Jenna Spadafora's (2012-15) career total of 2,876 assists for sixth on BSU's career charts. Just the 11th player in program history to record over 1,000 assists in a single season with 1,111 last year, Seaman's 10.14 career assists-per-set average ranks fifth on the all-time list and she is on pace to become only the fifth Cardinal to hand out over 4,000 career assists.
Â
Seaman and the Ball State women's volleyball team will take its six-match winning streak on the road this weekend when it travels to MAC East Division co-leaders Miami and Bowling Green, both of which are tied with Ball State for the overall MAC lead at 7-1. The Cardinals and RedHawks will battle at 7 p.m. Friday, while BSU will face the Falcons at 5 p.m. Saturday.
