Men's Tennis Defeats Eastern Illinois 6-1 In Home Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team won its spring home opener Saturday afternoon 6-1 over Eastern Illinois in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 1-1 on the season while the Panthers fall to 0-2.
The Cardinals won the doubles point for their second-straight match of the year after sweeping doubles action from the Panthers. Ball State's No. 3 duo of Chris Adams and Tom Carney were the first doubles tandem off the court as they took down Jared Woodson and Kaisei Kuroki by a score of 6-1. Marko Guzina paired up with Conner Andersen to clinch the point at the No. 2 position with their 6-2 win over Gage Kingsmith and Grant Reiman. At the top spot, Nemanja Guzina and Thibault de Negri captured a 6-4 win to close out doubles play.
Ball State then took the first set, five out of the six singles match from Eastern Illinois. Marko Guzin was the first off the court, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 edge over the Panthers with his 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot over Kuroki. De Negri then took down Trent Reiman, 6-4, 6-0 on court three for the Cardinals third point of the day. Freddie O'Brien made it a 3-1 match after winning on the top court for EIU but Bryce Bonin would soon earn Ball State's fourth point for the win over Kingsmith at the No. 6 position, 6-3, 6-2.
