January 14, 2018 | Gymnastics
WASHINGTON, D.C., -- The Ball State Cardinals finished second place with a 191.725 at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational Sunday in the Smith Center. GW won the meet with a score of 195.300. Cornell stood in third with a 190.550 and Penn earned a 190.325 respectively.
Â
"This wasn't't the performance we were hoping for," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We need to learn that when a teammate falls it shouldn't change the performance of the next athlete."
Â
The team started the competition on floor. Kaitlyn Menzione led the Cardinals with a 9.825 landing her in second place. Clare Collins earned fifth place with a 9.750. The team scored a 48.475.
Â
On vault Menzione notched a 9.800 landing her in fifth place overall. Freshman Arden Hudson managed a 9.775 earning her a new personal record and a sixth place finish.
Â
After the second rotation the Cardinals trailed GWÂ 97.575-97.375.
Â
Despite a tough rotation, senior, Jillian Hacker carried the bar squad scoring a 9.700 placing fifth.
Â
The team finished the competition on beam. Vicky Garcia earned a new personal best with a score of 9.825 landing her a second place finish.
Â
Menzione claimed fourth place with an all-around score of 38.325.
Â
"The team handled adversity well despite our tough rotation on bars," Saleem stated. "They were able to bounce back on beam and do their gymnastics like we practice."
Â
The team continues it's season at NC State, Jan. 20, against the wolf pack and William and Mary.
