Football Alumni Golf Outing Proves Successful
July 31, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State Alumni Association and Ball State football program held its annual Ray Louthen Memorial Alumni Golf & Dinner Outing July 28 at the Elks Country Club in Muncie, Ind., and over 100 golfers played in the event for second year head coach Mike Neu, '94.
"There's nothing better than to get the chance to be around these guys, share some great stories and talk about their experiences as Cardinals," Neu said. "The passion that everybody has about the football program, they wouldn't be here if they didn't have passion. The former players enjoyed Ball State and value the great experience that they had while playing here."
Former Ball State football players Todd Wright, Rick Burgard and Steve Martin along with Ball State head men's golf coach Mike Fleck won the event.
The golf outing started off with a lunch followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. There was a dinner and awards program along with prize drawings which included 130 guests. The members of the 1967 and 2007 teams were recognized at the event along with a farewell portion to long time football secretary Marlene Mitchell who retired after 25 years of service this past May. In addition, Coach Neu spoke and ended the event with the alumni singing the Ball State Fight Song.
The Ball State football team will open the 2017 football season on Sept. 2 at Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
