July 18, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State fifth-year senior offensive lineman Vinnie Palazeti has been named to the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. The announcement was made Tuesday by the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA).
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Palazeti (Owosso, Michigan/Powers Catholic) started all 12 games on the offensive line for the Cardinals last season, including 11 at center and one at left guard. He helped the Cardinals average 220 rushing yard per game, their highest average since 1978 (238.6 ypg). Ball State rushed for me than 300 yards at Buffalo on Oct. 15. Palezeti and the Cardinals' offensive line held the opposition to one sack or less in eight contests.
Palazeti will serve as one of the captains for the Cardinals this season. He is a three time Academic All-Mid-American Conference honoree and was voted Ball State's most improved player by his teammates in 2016.
