Volleyball’s 2017 Slate Features Six In-State Foes & Trip to Colorado State

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball second-year head coach Kelli Miller announced the program's 2017 schedule which will be heavy on in-state opponents starting with the season opener Aug. 25 at Indiana.
In all, six of Ball State's 13 non-conference matchups will be against fellow Indiana institutions including the second match of the Indiana Invitational (Aug. 25-26) which will see the Cardinals play Indiana State before closing the event against DePaul.
Ball State opens its 13-match home slate Sept. 1 by battling Navy and Bradley on the first day of the Ball State Tournament. The Cardinals cap their first of two home tournaments versus I-69 rival Fort Wayne on Sept. 2. After a midweek trip to IUPUI (Sept. 5), Ball State heads to Fort Collins, Colo. for its toughest non-conference test of the season at the Colorado State Tournament (Sept. 8 & 10). A pair of NCAA Tournament participants await the Cardinals at the event in the host Rams and Michigan. The Cardinals will also face a tough Idaho State squad at the event.
Ball State closes out the non-conference portion of its 2017 schedule with a three-day combined tournament with Butler. The Cardinals will host Evansville (Sept. 14) and Duquesne (Sept. 15), before closing out non-conference play at Butler (Sept. 16).
Ball State opens its 16-game Mid-American Conference slate with three consecutive road matches, starting Sept. 22 at Eastern Michigan. During league play, the Cardinals will play home-and-home matches versus each of the other five MAC West Division programs, while playing each MAC East Division squad once. Of its six cross-divisional matches, the Cardinals host Buffalo (Sept. 30), Bowling Green (Oct. 20) and Miami (Oct. 21), while traveling to Kent State (Oct. 13), Ohio (Oct. 14) and Akron (Nov. 4).
The 2017 MAC Volleyball Championship runs Nov. 16-19 and will be played at defending MAC regular season champion Miami. The winner of the eight-team MAC Tournament earns the league's automatic berth into the 37th Annual NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship which begins Friday, Dec. 1.
