Track & Field Earns Pair of Career Bests to Open MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - - Ball State opened the 2017 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a pair of career-best performances Thursday night at Western Michigan's Kanley Track & Field Complex.

In the lone event for the Cardinals on the opening day of the meet, freshman Maritza Rodriguez placed 23rd in the 10,000m run with a career-best time of 38:03.30. Redshirt freshman Stephanie McElhaney was not far behind, placing 24th overall with a personal-best effort of 38:59.33.

Friday will be a big day for the Ball State track & field team, as the Cardinals will compete in nine events on the second day of the MAC Outdoor Championships. First up will be freshmen Brooke Talhelm and Peyton Kneadler in the 1500m run at approximately 12:50 p.m.
