Track & Field Opens “GINA” Relays with Four Personal Bests

HILLSDALE, Mich. - - Freshman Kelsey Walters led the Ball State track & field team with a second-place finish in the shot put on the second day of competition at the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays.
Walters finished the day with a career-best toss of 13.69m (44'-11") to beat out three other Mid-American Conference throwers in the meet.
Freshman Peyton Kneadler added a sixth-place effort in the 800m run with a time 2:15.98, while senior Ericka Rinehart rounded out Ball State's three top 10 performers with a career-best effort of 11:31.59 to place ninth in the 3000m steeplechase.
Freshman Brooke Talhelm also clocked a personal-best time of 4:35.09 in the 1500m run Friday, while freshman Maritza Rodriguez opened the meet with a career-fast time of 17:46.74 in the 5000m run on Thursday.
The Ball State track & field team closes a busy week tomorrow with student-athletes competing in both the "GINA" Relay and the Southern Miss Open.
