Track & Field Returns to the Road for Illinois Twilight

MUNCIE, Ind. Â - - It's back to the road for the Ball State track & field team which will look to shine under the lights Saturday evening at the Illinois Twilight. Held at the Illinois Track Stadium, the meet will begin with throwing events at 3pm, followed by jumping and running events at 4 p.m.

With two weekends of regular season competition remaining on the current schedule, Ball State's student-athletes will look to carry over the momentum from last weekend's Ball State Challenge which saw the host Cardinals win a pair of events and earn 22 top 10 finishes.

BALL STATE NEWS & NOTES:
- Entering the fifth meet of the outdoor season, Ball State's student-athletes have already accumulated eight individual event wins and 40 career-best performances.

- Leading the way for the Cardinals entering the Illinois Twilight is sophomore Regan Lewis who cleared a career best outdoor height of 1.76m to place second in the high jump at the Ball State Challenge (April 15) … The effort currently ranks second in the Mid-American Conference and 15th on the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round qualifying list.

- Thanks to her MAC Championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.70m in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays (March 24), Regan Lewis was named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week … She is the first Ball State track & field student-athlete to earn MAC weekly honors this season.

- With a career-fast time of 11.74 in the 100m dash at the Ball State Challenge (April 15), sophomore Peyton Stewart enters the week ranked second in the conference in the event.

- Freshman Brooke Talhelm enters the week as the program leader in three different events … She ranks 11th in the conference with a career-fast 800m dash time of 2:13.79 set at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational (April 1) … Her career-fast 1500m run time of 4:35.44 set at the Raleigh Relays (March 24) is 16th in the MAC, while she also leads the team in the 3000m run with a career-best effort of 10:19.28 at the Stan Lyons Invitational (March 18).

- Brooke Talhelm's time of 4:35.44 in the 1500m run at the Raleigh Relays (March 24) is the fastest for a Ball State runner in the event since Mary-Kate Mellen clocked a time of 4:28.77 to place fifth at the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championships.

- 2017 Mid-American Conference 60m hurdles indoor champion sophomore Jazmin Smith enters the Illinois Twilight ranked 11th in the MAC in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.16 set at the Raleigh Relays (March 24) … Smith owns a career-best 100m hurdles time of 14.10 set at last season's Billy Hayes Invitational (May 6).
