Baseball Adds Pitcher Luke Jaksich for 2017-18 Season
April 19, 2017 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball head coach Rich Maloney announced today that Luke Jaksich will join the squad for the upcoming 2017-18 academic year. Jaksich is the seventh student-athlete to commit to the Cardinals for next season.
"We're excited to have Luke join us next year," Maloney said. "He's gaining valuable experience at Saint Joe's. Rick O'Dette is an outstanding coach and has a great reputation for developing pitchers. He's really high on Luke. Luke is very competitive and has the makings of a really good breaking ball. We think he will be a great addition to our staff."
Jaksich is currently pitching for Division II Saint Joseph's College where he has a 2-2 record in seven starts. He struck out a season-high nine batters in the win over Bellarmine on April 9. Because Saint Joseph's is closing at the end of the school year, Jaksich will be able to compete immediately in 2017-18.
Jaksich, hailing from Saint John, Indiana, helped Andrean High capture two state 3A championships (2014, 2015) and three conference titles. The left-handed pitcher posted a 7-2 record with a 2.10 ERA as a senior in 2016. He was a two-time all-area and all-conference selection.
Six other student-athletes signed with the Cardinals in the fall signing period – P/OF Drey Jameson (Greenfield, Indiana), RHP Chayce McDermott (Anderson, Indiana), SS Noah Navarro (Avon, Indiana), RHP Kyle Nicolas (Massillon, Ohio), LHP Ben Wiegand (Warren, Michigan) and 1B Rhett Wintner (Carmel, Indiana).
Ball State (19-18, 6-6 MAC) returns to action this weekend with a Mid-American Conference series at Buffalo. Game one on Friday is set to begin at 3 p.m.
