Honorary Captains Announced for Football Spring Game
April 12, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State football team has announced former Cardinals Art Stringer (1972-75) and Todd Wright (1986-90) will return to Scheumann Stadium to serve as the honorary captains for Saturday's Spring Football Game.
Stringer was a three-year starter on the defensive line. As a senior in 1975, he earned all-league accolades at defensive end thanks to posting 66 tackles and six tackles for loss. The native of Detroit, Michigan, helped the Cardinals to a 9-2 overall record in 1975 and finish in a third-place tie in Ball State's first season in the Mid-American Conference. Stringer went on to play five years in the National Football League for the Houston Oilers.
Wright was a stalwart on the offensive line, starting 34 consecutive games in the trenches. He was selected to the 1989 All-MAC first team and then served as a team captain in 1990. The offensive guard was a key part of the 1989 MAC championship team that went on to play in the California Raisin Bowl against Fresno State. Wright, originally from Bowling Green, Ohio, was a teammate of current Ball State head coach Mike Neu.
Both men are members of the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame.
The 2017 Cardinals are set to hold their annual Spring Game this Saturday, April 15 at noon. The team will begin warm-ups on the field at 11:15 a.m. This year's format will once again have the offense take on the defense in a four-quarter game with a running clock.
Admission to the Spring Game is free. Ball State Athletics will give away an early edition of the 2017 football poster to fans while supplies last. An autograph session will be held on the field following the game's completion.
