February 01, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State football head coach Mike Neu announced today that 27 student-athletes will join the Cardinal program beginning this spring or next academic year.
The 2017 signing day class includes six defensive backs, six linebackers, five wide receivers, three running backs, three offensive linemen, three defensive linemen and one punter. The class features players from nine states – Georgia (10), Indiana (five), Ohio (three), Louisiana (three), Kentucky (two), Michigan (one), Illinois (one), Alabama (one) and Missouri (one).
"Obviously this was a much-anticipated morning and I'm happy for all of these young men to join our family," Neu said. "I think it's a great day for all of us. We were able to take a full class and address a lot of areas where we can really upgrade and create competition throughout our football team. It truly is an exciting day."
247Sports rated Ball State's signing class as the second highest in the Mid-American Conference.
Ball State opens its 2017 schedule with four consecutive non-conference games. The Cardinals kick off the season on Sept. 2 at Big Ten foe Illinois before hosting UAB and Tennessee Tech in back-to-back weekends on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16. Ball State winds down its non-conference slate on Sept. 23 at two-time defending Conference USA champion Western Kentucky.
