Mike Neu Interview - Northern Illinois Week
November 06, 2017 | Football
What is the mind set heading into this week's game at NIU …
"When you're a team and you don't have confidence, you are not where you want to be mind set wise, believing we can overcome adversity when it happens in the game. That's where our challenge is more than anything else right now. It's not because guys aren't putting their best effort out there and practicing, not because the guys are not locked in on game day, it is just simply when things seem to go against us, adversity begins to present itself. That's where we are not where we need to be at a confidence standpoint."
Thoughts on the defensive side of the ball …
"The opportunities that we have, when we have an opportunity to pick off the ball or cause a turnover, not being able to get that done is something obviously that is frustrating. Our guys are playing hard, our guys are working like the crazy the week of practice, preparing the right way, but we need to carry that over to game day."
Scouting Northern Illinois …
"They are playing well on all three phases right now if you just look at them offensively, defensively, and kicking game. Northern is one of those opponents where we have to be at our best. We're going to have to go in and execute and sustain drives and put points on the board. We have to stay out of negative plays and win the turnover battle that has been a problem. We have to be able to do that. We need to limit the explosive plays."
On NIU quarterback Marcus Childers …
"He is just running the offense. He is not making mistakes and he is one of those guys that has given them a chance to win week in and week out. Obviously he can makes some plays both in running the ball and passing the ball and he is executing their offense."
