Baseball’s 2018 Schedule Features Home Games Against Three Big Ten Foes

MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2018 Ball State baseball schedule is loaded with quality opponents and several trips to the South at the beginning of the season. Opening day is Friday, Feb. 16 against UMass Lowell in Charleston, South Carolina.
Ball State will face five teams that reached for the 2017 NCAA Baseball Championships – Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio and Radford. The Cardinals will take on Iowa, Maryland and Radford during the first month of the season that has the squad making stops in Charleston, New Orleans, Myrtle Beach and western North Carolina.
The home opener is slated for Friday, March 16 against Dayton. Three Big Ten opponents will be visiting First Merchants Ballpark Complex this year – Purdue (March 20), Indiana (April 3) and Ohio State (May 2). This will be just the fourth time the Hoosiers have played at Ball State since 2000. Meanwhile, Ohio State will be making its first trip to Muncie since 1970.
Home Mid-American Conference opponents include Central Michigan, Miami, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The 2018 MAC Tournament will once again be held at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio from May 23-27.
Ball State concluded the 2017 season with a 30-28 overall record and 14-10 mark in the MAC. The Cardinals have won at least 30 games in five consecutive seasons.
