Track & Field Opens 2017 with Saturday Dual at Western Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's track & field team opens the 2017 portion of its indoor schedule Saturday, Jan. 7, when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a 2 p.m. dual meet with the Western Michigan Broncos at University Arena.

Dubbed the WMU "Ice Breaker", the Cardinals will be looking to do exactly that in its first appearance at the Broncos' annual indoor meet after turning in a strong showing at the Mastodon Opener held over a month ago.

Based on their performances opening weekend, sophomore high jumper Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) and freshman sprinter Jasmine Harris (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) continue to hold the top spots in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.

Lewis enters the meet ranked 10th nationally in the high jump after clearing the bar at a career-best height of 1.75m, while Harris is 20th nationally in the 60m hurdles with her career-best time of 8.61 in prelims. Both efforts are MAC Indoor Championship automatic qualifying marks.

Sophomore Jazmin Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/North College Hill), who edged Harris by 0.01 for first-place in the finals heat of the 60m hurdles at Fort Wayne time of 8.71, also enters Saturday's meet at WMU as a MAC automatic qualifier.
