Ray Skjold Joins Baseball Staff as Volunteer Coach
January 17, 2017 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball head coach Rich Maloney has announced that Ray Skjold has joined the team as a volunteer assistant coach this spring. Skjold has six years of experience working as a collegiate baseball coach.
Skjold (pronounced SKOLD) spent the 2016 season serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for his alma mater, Post University. He also served four years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Fairleigh Dickinson (2012-15). The 2015 FDU squad knocked off the No. 1 seed in the Northeast Conference Tournament and had three players earn all-conference accolades at the end of the regular season.
Skjold's first collegiate coaching position came in 2011 as the hitting and catching coach for Arcadia University.
"We are very fortunate to be able to add someone with as much quality experience as Ray has to our staff," Maloney said. "Ray will serve a variety of roles on our staff and work primarily with the catchers on the field."
A native of Ramsey, New Jersey, Skjold was a four-year collegiate player at Post, where he primarily played catcher but also saw some time at first base and contributed innings on the mound. During his senior season year, the Eagles finished second in the CACC and were ranked as high as No. 3 in the region. Skjold earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and a minor in sport management.
Skjold has worked several baseball camps over the past six years and also served as the head coach for the New Jersey Angels summer collegiate team this past summer.
Ball State's 2017 season opener is slated for Feb. 17 in Clearwater, Florida, against No. 22 Maryland.
