September 29, 2016 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University gymnastics team has released its 2016-2017 schedule, consisting of many new non-conference opponents.
"We have an exciting schedule this year," head coach Joanna Saleem stated. "We travel to compete against NC State and new rival, George Washington. I'm excited we have the opportunity to face bigger schools and gain that experience and exposure for the program."
The season officially begins January 6 when the Cardinals travel to Missouri. The following weekend Ball State opens its four meet home schedule against Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois (Jan. 15).
On Jan. 20, the Cardinals travel to Raleigh, NC, to compete against North Carolina State. Ball State hosts Kentucky on Jan. 29.
The team returns to the east coast Feb 5, when it visits Washington, DC, to dual George Washington on Feb. 5.Â
Following the trip to D.C., the Cardinals compete in MAC duals, vs. Central Michigan (Feb.12), at Bowling Green (Feb. 18), at Eastern Michigan (Feb.24) and vs. Western Michigan (Mar. 5).Â
Ball State will participate in the season's only tri-meet against Western Michigan and Illinois-Chicago on Mar. 7. The Cardinals' regular season ends at Kent State on Mar. 10.
The MAC Championships will be held in Bowling Green, Ohio on March 18.Â
"I'm looking forward to seeing the team compete this year," Saleem said. "Gymnastics throughout the MAC has become very competitive and our team knows we will have to reach our full potential to be a top contender this year."
