With five seniors from last season's squad suited up, this year's team was put to the test early and managed to pull out a hard-fought 28-26 victory in the opening set.
Ball State's alumnae, who were aided by current Cardinals freshman outside hitter Anna Jensen and assistant coach Tiffany Fisher, bounced back to win the second set 25-22.
The third set was another battle, with freshman defensive specialist Kate Avila serving up a frame-winning ace at 29-27. The current Cardinals would go on to win the fourth set (25-22) and take the match (3-1) on a kill from sophomore opposite Brooklyn Goodsel.
Fisher would lead all players with 17 kills, while 2013 graduate Kylee (Baker) Fuller followed with 12. Including Jenson on the other side of the net, six members of the 2016 squad scored at least seven kills, led by 11 from sophomore outside hitter Ellie Dunn.
