July 13, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State head women's volleyball coach Kelli Miller has announced the addition of Indiana native and former Purdue standout Tiffany Fisher as an assistant coach for the Cardinals.
Fisher comes to Muncie after spending the last three years as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association. She helped guide the Cougars to a pair of CAA regular season championships, the 2013 CAA Tournament title and a berth in the 2013 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship.
“I am excited to welcome Tiffany back to Indiana and into the Ball State family,” Miller said. “Her playing and coaching experiences have prepared her to make an immediate impact on our program. She is a fierce competitor who will bring the best out of our players.”
While at the College of Charleston, Fisher's main focus was working with the program's blockers and attackers. She also assisted in setting, passing and defensive work. Her first year on staff saw CofC pace the CAA with a .255 attack percentage led by Muncie native and Delta High School graduate Darcy Dorton. Dorton was the 2013 CAA Player of the Year and an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American Honorable Mention honoree.
Fisher also helped Cougars setter Kallie McKown earn 2013 CAA Setter of the Year honors and libero Andi Zbojniewicz capture 2014 CAA Defensive Player of the Year accolades. In three seasons at CofC, Fisher helped her student-athletes earn one All-America honor, three CAA Player of the Year awards and 19 all-conference accolades.
“I am thrilled to be at Ball State and back in the heart of volleyball country,” Fisher said. “Indiana is where some of the best volleyball in the nation is played, and I look forward to working with current and future Cardinals to help this program compete for championships. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to working with Coach Miller and the rest of the staff to help our student-athletes reach their full potential.”
Fisher is no stranger to the state of Indiana, as she started her coaching career as a student assistant at Purdue (2012) following an exceptional playing career for the Boilermakers (2008-11). In her one season working under Purdue head coach Dave Shondell, Fisher helped coach blocking and middle attacking for a squad which finished the season with a 23-11 overall record, was ranked as high as 12th in the nation and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship.
As a player, Fisher led the Boilermakers to three NCAA Championship appearances, including three Sweet 16 berths (2008, 2010 and 2011) and an Elite Eight appearance (2010). An AVCA honorable mention All-American, All-Mideast Region and unanimous All-Big Ten selection as a senior, Fisher finished her Purdue career ranked third all-time in school history in career hitting percentage (.322) and ninth in career block assists (322). She also led the team in service aces each of her last two seasons.
Fisher, who graduated from Purdue in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in physical education, recorded double digit kills in 38 career matches and five or more blocks 25 times over her playing career. She was named the most valuable player of the 2011 Denver Invitational and the 2010 Active Ankle Challenge, plus was a member of the Mortar Premier all-tournament team three times.
A native of Topeka, Ind., Fisher earned three letters in volleyball and was an all-state honoree in three sports at Westview High School. She also earned four letters in basketball and four letters in track for the Warriors.
