June 20, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball player Alex Call was recently named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-America second team. He was one of just three Mid-American Conference players to make the prestigious list.
This was the second time Call's name found a spot on an All-America list. The outfielder from River Falls, Wisconsin, was named a Louisville Slugger first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in early June.
Call, who was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the third round of this year's Major League Baseball Draft, led the MAC in hits (87), runs (67), doubles (24), triples (6), total bases (162) and slugging (.667) while ranking among the top five players in the conference in home runs (13), batting average (.358), stolen bases (17) and on-base percentage (.443). He was the MAC Player of the Year and named to the MAC All-Defensive Team.
The ABCA All-America committee is chaired by Dean Ehehalt of Monmouth University and also includes head coaches Mike Stone (Massachusetts), Brian O'Connor (Virginia), Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt), Steve Jaksa (Central Michigan), Dan Heefner (Dallas Baptist), Tommy Raffo (Arkansas State) and George Horton (Oregon).
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school.
