Track & Field Visits Bloomington Friday for Finale Tune-Up Before MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - With one final chance to boost their standings on the Mid-American Conference outdoor performance list before next week's championship meet, the Ball State track & field program will send nine student-athletes to Friday's Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex.
Ball State will open the meet at 2 p.m. Friday, when senior Marie Lumpkin takes the ring for the hammer throw. Lumpkin currently ranks seventh in the MAC with an outdoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 55.40m (181'-9”). The effort is also the second-best individual throw in program history.
Next on the docket is the javelin at approximately 3:30 p.m., which is the first of two events for senior thrower Michaela Hull. Hull enters the meet ranked ninth in the MAC in the javelin at 38.01m (124'-8”).
Ball State's first event on the track takes place at 4:10 p.m., with freshman Jazmin Smith entered in the 100m hurdles. Smith currently ranks 13th in the league with an automatic qualifying time of 14.12.
The 100m dash, which starts at 4:30 p.m., features both freshman Peyton Stewart and sophomore Anna-Kay West. Stewart ranks seventh in the MAC with an automatic qualifying time of 11.80. West is looking to solidify her place in the league meet, as she is currently 20th at 12.13.
At 5:40, sophomore Gabby Sims and freshman Amber McGee take their turn on the track, running in the 400m dash. Sims is currently 22nd in the conference at 57.66, while McGee is 26th at 58.17.
Hull returns to competition at 6:30 p.m. in the discus, an event she ranks 11th in the conference in at 45.05m (147'-10”). She will be joined in the discus by sophomore Adrienne Mayfield who ranks 30th on the league performance list at 37.65m (123'-6”).
Junior Ericka Rinehart closes competition in the meet at 7:20 p.m. in the 3000m steeplechase. She currently ranks 21st in the conference at 11:35.20.
