Women?s Tennis Season Ends At NCAA?s

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 10 Michigan Friday afternoon at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Courts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Max Norris, earned their first-ever berth in the NCAA Championships after defeating Western Michigan 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship match. Ball State also made history this season after Norris guided the Cardinals' to the programs first MAC regular season title and the most wins, 22, in Ball State women's tennis history.
The Wolverines took the doubles point from Ball State after posting wins on courts three and two. The Cardinals were down 5-3 on the top court when doubles play had been abandoned.
In singles action the Wolverines took wins on courts two, three and one in straight sets giving Michigan the 4-0 win over Ball State. Michigan now advances to the second round against Kentucky Saturday.
Despite today's loss, the Cardinals put up a strong showing over the Wolverines which was highlighted by Toni Ormond taking a 6-3 second set from Alex Najarian at the No. 4 position. All six of the Cardinals' singles players also took games from each of their opponents.
