Game Notes
Opening Pitch: Ball State has traveled well in the conference this year, winning four of its six road games thus far. In those six games, the Cardinals have scored an average of six runs a game.
However, Ball State is only batting .231 in league road games. SS Alex Maloney (.318), 1B Caleb Stayton (.304) and RF Alex Call (.300) are the top hitters in those games.
RHP BJ Butler has picked up two MAC road wins in relief this season. He has tallied eight strikeouts in eight innings pitched in those games.
Series History: Ball State leads the all-time series by a count of 12-3. The two teams first met in 2008 with Ball State winning the initial seven meetings between the two squads.
Last year, the Cardinals took two of three games at Ball Diamond. C Jarett Rindfleisch went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a triple, five RBIs and four runs scored in the 16-8 win on March 29, 2015.
Two for Call: RF Alex Call hit home runs in back-to-back innings in Ball State's 13-1 win over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. Call finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
He became the second Cardinal to hit two home runs in a game in 2016. C Jarett Rindfleisch accomplished the feat on March 11 in a 7-1 win at LSU.
Speaking of Home Runs: The Cardinals are 16-2 in games this season when hitting a home run.
1B Caleb Stayton (eight), RF Alex Call (eight) and C Jarett Rindfleisch (seven) are the team leaders in that category.
Shake Up in Rotation: Ball State is mixing up its starting rotation this weekend. RHP Colin Brockhouse is expected to make his first MAC start on Friday.
LHP Kevin Marnon will get the ball on Saturday while Sunday's game will feature either RHP Brendan Burns or LHP Matt Haro.
Marnon recorded Ball State's last quality start on April 10 against Western Michigan.
