Track & Field Set for Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After a successful showing at last weekend's Ball State Challenge, the Ball State track & field team looks to carry over the momentum into this weekend's Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic hosted by Ohio State.
The two-day meet starts Friday at 2 p.m. with throwing events, while long distance races are slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. The meet concludes Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and competition on the track starting at noon.
Ball State will have four student-athletes in action Friday, starting with seniors Michaela Hull and Marie Lumpkin in the discus. Hull enters the meet ranked 11th on the MAC performance list in the event with a throw of 44.94m (147'-5”), while Lumpkin is 22nd at 39.53m (129'-8”).
Friday's action on the track sees junior Jordan Timmons competing in the 1500m run (8 p.m.) and junior Ericka Rinehart entered in the 3000m steeplechase (8:45 p.m.). Rinehart enters the meet ranked 12th on the league's performance list in the steeplechase with a career-fast time of 11:35.20 set at last weekend's Ball State Challenge.
Saturday will see the Cardinals compete in nine different events starting with the 4x100m relay at noon. Freshman Jazmin Smith and sophomore Anna-Kay West will get Ball State's individual competitors started with the 100m hurdles at 12:20 p.m. At last weekend's Ball State Challenge, Smith turned in a MAC Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying time of 14.12 in the 100m hurdles and currently ranks 12th in the league.
Freshman Peyton Stewart also turned in a MAC Outdoor Championships automatic qualifying mark last weekend and enters this weekend's meet ranked seventh in the league in the 100m dash with a time of 11.80. Stewart and West are both slated to compete in the 100m dash starting at 2 p.m.
As a team, Ball State has five individuals ranked in the top 10 on the MAC outdoor performance list entering the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic, with four of them competing in their respective events this weekend.
Stewart and Lumpkin are Ball State's top-ranked individuals, with Stewart's time of 11.80 in the 100m dash and Lumpkin's MAC Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying throw of 55.40m (181'-9”) in the hammer set at the IWU Polar Bear Invitational (March 24) both ranking seventh. Senior Becca Kropf enters the weekend ranked eighth in the league in the 400m hurdles (1:02.04), while junior Gabrielle Perryman is ninth in the triple jump (11.58m / 38'-0”).
Ball State also enters the meet with the league's eighth-ranked 4x100m relay (47.58) and 10th-ranked 4x400m relay (3:57.89).
