BJ Butler Named MAC West Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State baseball player BJ Butler was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon thanks to his on-field performance in three appearances last week.
Butler did not give up a run in three relief appearances this past week. The native of Mattawan, Michigan, gave the Cardinals a chance to win at Indiana on April 13 by holding the Hoosiers scoreless in the final two innings in a 4-3 loss. Butler then held Central Michigan scoreless the final three innings on April 16 as Ball State broke a 7-7 tie for a 10-7 win. The righty picked up his second win of the week the following day as he pitched the final two innings against Central Michigan on April 17 without giving up a run. Ball State scored two in the ninth to pull out a 4-2 win.
Butler ranks second in the MAC with seven saves this season. He has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances.
Kent State first baseman Conner Simonetti (East Player), Kent State pitcher Andy Ravel (East Pitcher) and Northern Illinois outfielder Stephen Letz (West Player) were the other award winners this week.
Nine different Ball State players have won either a MAC Player or Pitcher of the Week award so far this season.
Ball State (23-14, 9-3 MAC), is back in action tomorrow, April 19, at Big Ten foe Purdue. Game time is 6 p.m.
