Projected Starting Pitcher
Matt Haro, LHP (2-1, 1.42 ERA, 16 Ks)
Game Notes
Opening Pitch: LHP Matt Haro will get the start on the bump today for the Cardinals. Haro leads the team in ERA (1.42) and has only allowed three walks in 19.0 innings pitched. He has not allowed an earned run in his last four outings, all relief appearances.
Series History: The Boilermakers lead the all-time series, 48-36-2. The two teams met twice last year with each squad winning on its home field.
In Ball State's 8-2 win over Purdue last March, CF Matt Eppers notched his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the second inning, and scored three times. LHP Trevor Henderson tossed 5.2 innings, only gave up two hits and struck out five batters in the victory.
Stayton Continues to Produce: 1B Caleb Stayton enters Tuesday's game riding a 12-game hitting streak. During this stretch, Stayton is hitting .370 (17-of-46) with 14 RBIs. Stayton had notched an RBI in eight straight games until going 1-for-4 on Sunday against Dayton. His 26 RBIs are twice as many as anyone else on the roster.
One Big Inning: Ball State racked up 10 runs in the third inning in its 10-0 win over Dayton on March 19. The 10 runs were the most scored by the Cardinals in one inning since Ball State tallied 10 runs in the third inning against Toledo on May 14, 2009.
Juniors Caleb Stayton, Alex Maloney and Alex Call all homered in Saturday's big inning.
