Brendan Burns Named MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week
March 01, 2016 | Baseball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State baseball player Brendan Burns was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week Monday thanks to his standout performance in the Cardinals' 9-3 win over Milwaukee on Feb. 27.
In his first start of the season, the sophomore right-handed pitcher did not allow a run in six innings pitched against Milwaukee. He struck out five batters and only allowed four singles. Burns was one of three Ball State starting pitchers to toss at least six innings and give up two or less earned runs this weekend. The native of Fishers, Indiana has only given up one earned run in 10.1 innings pitched this spring (0.87 ERA).
Miami first baseman Ross Haffey (East Player), Ohio pitcher Jake Rudnicki (East Pitcher) and Northern Illinois outfielder Justin Fletcher (West Player) were the other award winners this week.
Ball State (3-5) returns to action next weekend at the Chanticleer Classic, hosted by nationally ranked Coastal Carolina, in Conway, South Carolina.
