T&F Places Two in Finals, Lumpkin 8th in Weight Throw on Day 1 of MACs

AKRON, Ohio - - The Ball State track & field team turned in several strong performances on the first day of the 2016 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, including an eighth-place finish by senior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) in the weight throw.

Lumpkin's best throw came in her second of six attempts, when she reached a distance of 17.39m (57'-0”) to earn the Cardinals' lone point on the opening day of the Championships.

In preliminary action, freshman Peyton Stewart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) locked up her first appearance in the finals of a MAC Championship event, tying her career-best time in the 60m dash at 7.58 to earn the sixth seed in Saturday's championship race set for 3 p.m.

Senior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) will be making her second consecutive appearance in the 800m run indoor finals, clocking a career-fast indoor time of 2:11.91 to earn the eighth seed in Saturday's championship race slated for 3:20 p.m. Dahl placed seventh in the finals at last season's MAC Indoor Championship with a time of 2:18.54.

Freshman Amber McGee (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) also turned in a strong effort in her first MAC Championship appearance, turning in career-fast times in both the 400m (56.80) and 200m (25.31) dashes to place 16th and 18th, respectively.

Ball State opens the second day of competition at the 2016 MAC Indoor Championships at 1 p.m. Saturday, when freshman Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) competes in the high jump.
