Cardinals Honor Five Seniors This Sunday
February 25, 2016 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind—The Ball State gymnastics team hosts Bowling Green Sunday, February 28, at 1 p.m. in Worthen Arena for its annual Senior Day. The Cardinals will honor seniors, Erin Patchey, Katie Honarmand, Brooke Evans, Angela Durkac, and Denasiha Christian for their completion of four years participating in the gymnastics program.
“I'm excited to honor our five seniors,” head coach Joanna Saleem said. “These ladies have worked hard and deserve this honor for their tireless leadership in and out of the gym as well as the performances they have contributed this season. I want nothing more then to see our seniors off with a successful night of competition. Bowling Green will be a great opponent to challenge us and heighten that competitive atmosphere on the competition floor.”
The Cardinals come off a 194.775 second place finish against Northern Illinois (194.900) and Seattle Pacific (193.900). The team matched its school record vault score with a 49.100. On bars the Cardinals earned a new season high, 49.025, they scored 47.575 on beam and concluded with a season high of 49.075 on floor.
Denasiha Christian took home her sixth floor title of the season scoring a 9.900. She also won the competition on vault with a 9.975, second best in school history. Also on vault Sarah Ebeyer (9.875) and Clare Collins (9.750) both scored career highs. Madison Howell (9.800) and Katie Honarmand (9.825) earned personal best scores on bars. Jordyn Penny placed second with a career high beam score of 9.775.
“Returning home after a meet that had a lot of great things happen, is a big encouragement to continue to compete confidently,” Saleem said. “This year is unique in the fact that this is not our last home meet. Your Cardinals will be returning to host the Mid-American Conference Championships in March. It's exciting to know that our season is not done yet. There is still ample opportunity to reach our team goals and improve our season.”

The Cardinals travel to Oregon State to compete a non-conference tri-meet against the Beavers and Seattle Pacific, Friday, March 4, at 10 p.m. ET.
