MUNCIE, Ind.-- The Ball State gymnastics team will travel to DeKalb, Ill. to compete against Northern Illinois and Seattle Pacific Friday, February 19, at 8 p.m. ET.
"In preparation for this Friday's meet, the team has been training hard to keep every tenth," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Although we had a limited time in the gym to clean up our skills before we compete at Northern, I am satisfied with the progress we made on our landings on every event. The goal this weekend is to compete how we train, with confidence, power, and to fight for every stuck landing."
The Cardinals, 4-7 overall and 0-4 in MAC play, are coming off of a 194.375 third place standing against Kent State (194.625), Lindenwood (190.950), and Kentucky (195.800). Northern Illinois 4-6 overall and 1-3 in MAC play, scored a 195.000 last weekend for the win against Western Michigan (194.200).
At the annual Think Pink meet, Ball State managed event scores of 48.525 on vault, 48.775 on bars, 48.000 on beam, and a 49.075 on floor.
Cardinal gymnasts Denasiha Christian, Erin Patchey and Jordyn Penny all scored a 9.725 tying for seventh place. Penny took first place on bars scoring a 9.875. Christian earned her fifth floor title of the season scoring a 9.900. Sarah Ebeyer followed in third with a score of 9.850 earning her a personal best on the event. Patchey stood sixth with a 9.825.
"Cardinal gymnastics is excited to break a 195.000 team score this weekend," Saleem stated. "We have set high standards for ourselves this season, and we intend to rise to the challenge. I believe this team is prepared to compete to win. I have seen the passion in every routine and landing, all we have to do is stay focused, and go out there and perform like we train."
