MUNCIE, Ind.—The Ball State gymnastics team hosted Lindenwood, Kent State, and University of Kentucky for its annual Think Pink meet Sunday, February 14, at 1 p.m. The Cardinals placed third in the competition with a team score of 194.375, Kentucky (195.800), Kent State (194.625), and Lindenwood (190.950).
“I feel good about the meet,” head coach Joanna Saleem said. “The team is being consistent, which is something that is important to us this year. Although we had some errors throughout the meet it's exciting to see that the team is at a place now where they don't let those little mistakes derail the whole night. The current goals are to keep moving forward, keep getting better week by week and stay hungry for the remainder of the season.”
Ball State scored a 48.525 on vault, 48.775 on bars, 48.000 on beam, and 49.075 on floor.
The Cardinals started the competition on vault where there was a three-way tie for seventh. Erin Patchey, Jordyn Penny, and Denasiha Christian all scored 9.725.
On bars Penny took first place scoring a 9.875. Kayla Beckler stood sixth with a score of 9.800.
Ball State had a two-way tie on beam for eighth between Baylee Bell, and Kayla Beckler, both scoring 9.725.
The Cardinals finished the quad meet on the floor. Denasiha Christian earned her fifth floor title of the season scoring a 9.900. Sarah Ebeyer followed in third with a score of 9.850 earning her a personal best on the event. Erin Patchey stood sixth with a 9.825.
“I'm excited to see Jordyn doing so well on bars and Denasiha continuing to 'WOW' the judges on floor,” Saleem said. “We've worked really hard in the gym to make sure we are doing our best to keep every last tenth to improve our scores. Sarah and Erin also had great routines, which helped improve our floor score. We have a lot of exciting things happening with this team this year and Ball State is just as excited to host the Mid American Conference Championships come March.”
The Cardinals will travel Friday, February 19, to dual Northern Illinois, at 8 p.m. ET.
