Dustin Glant Joins Ball State Baseball Staff as Pitching Coach
December 09, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University baseball coach Rich Maloney announced today that Dustin Glant has joined the staff as the team's pitching coach. Glant spent last year as the head coach at nearby Anderson University.
"I'm thrilled to have Dustin back in the Ball State family," Maloney said. "His experience as a professional baseball player, high school and collegiate coach has prepared him well for this opportunity. He is a relentless worker and I know our pitchers will thrive under his tutelage. This is certainly a big win for Ball State baseball."
Glant brings almost 15 years of professional playing and coaching experience to the Cardinals. He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the seventh round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft out of Purdue. Glant, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, advanced as high as Triple-A with the Diamondbacks in 2007 and 2008. Following the 2008 season, the right-handed pitcher continued his professional career in four different independent leagues from 2009-11. He played for the Schaumburg Flyers (Northern League), Mayos de Navajoa (Mexican Pacific League), Medellin Potros (Colombian Winter League) and Winnipeg Goldeyes (American Association).
Glant served as a volunteer baseball coach for Ball State during the 2013 season, helping the Cardinals reach the Mid-American Conference championship game. He began his coaching career in the high school ranks, serving as head coach at Indiana schools Mt. Vernon High and Lapel High. While at Lapel, Glant led the Bulldogs to a 2015 regional bid and Class 2A No. 1 ranking. Glant took over as head coach at Division III Anderson University in September 2015.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to come back and work with coach Maloney and coach French," Glant said. "I know [previous pitching coach] Chris Fetter left these guys in a good place and I'm excited to get started."
Ball State's 2017 season opener is slated for Feb. 17 in Clearwater, Florida, against Maryland.
