Pitcher BJ Butler Named to Collegiate Baseball's Preseason All-America Team

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State senior BJ Butler was one of just three Mid-American Conference players selected to Collegiate Baseball's preseason All-America team. The right-handed pitcher from Mattawan, Michigan, was a third team selection.
Butler went 6-1 with a 1.84 ERA and nine saves in 25 appearances last spring. He ranked second in the MAC in saves, sixth in appearances (25) and eighth in wins. The righty went 13 consecutive appearances from March 29 to May 8 without allowing a run. Against league opponents in 2016, Butler posted a 5-0 record with a 1.07 ERA and three saves.
Butler is expected to anchor the Ball State pitching staff as a starter this spring. Other key returning pitchers include senior left-hander Kevin Marnon and junior right-hander Colin Brockhouse. The Cardinals' pitching staff notched a 4.31 ERA last year, which ranked second in the MAC.
Ball State's 2017 season opener is slated for Feb. 17 in Clearwater, Florida, against Maryland.
