October 04, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team held its annual Scout Day Monday afternoon at First Merchants Ballpark Complex with the Black squad earning a 4-1 victory over the Red team.
"It was a beautiful day and a good turnout from scouts," head coach Rich Maloney said. "Overall, pitching and defense won out throughout the scrimmage."
Senior left-handed pitcher Kevin Marnon started for the Red team and struck out four batters over two innings. Fellow senior BJ Butler matched Marnon with four strikeouts for the Black squad in his two innings pitched. Junior Brendan Burns, senior Evan Korson, junior Colin Brockhouse and senior David Current all pitched a scoreless inning without allowing a hit.
The Black team tallied a run in the bottom of the first inning and the Red team finally responded with a tally in the seventh. Junior Jeff Riedel came up with the go-ahead hit for the Black squad in the bottom of the eighth inning. Senior Alex Maloney followed with a two-run hit to provide some insurance runs.
Sophomore Roman Baisa recorded three hits and three stolen bases for the Black team. Meanwhile, sophomore Zach Milam finished 3-for-3 and scored the lone run for the Red team.
