All-Access: Volleyball Attacks Pin-to-Pin
October 25, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Cardinals one of five MAC teams with three over 175 kills
Ball State women's volleyball lost, statistically, the most in the country to graduation after 2015. That pretty much laid out the challenge for 2016 before the first ball was ever served: who would step up to be the Cardinal's new leaders going forward.
Well when it comes to finding new hitters, in particular, the Cards seem to have uncovered not just one, but three options that have been 'go-to' type players. Junior Sabrina Mangapora and sophomores Brooklyn Goodsel and Ellie Dunn all have racked up 175 or more kills on the pins this season. Those numbers put the Cardinals among just four other MAC teams (Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami and Ohio) with three players above that threshold. Each of the three Cardinals has tallied 20 or more kills at least once in 2016.
Ball State All-Access talked to coach Kelli Miller along with the three hitters to talk about seizing their moments and how BSU's offense has progressed this fall. Each player has made great strides in their individual rights. Mangapora is fresh off shoulder surgery that cost her 2015. Goodsel, the six-rotation player of the bunch, is one of the svelter players in the MAC but added a lot of strength from her freshman season. And Dunn has grown recently from a straight power hitter to somebody that can utilize the off-speed game more.
The Cardinals return to action Friday at Eastern Michigan. They're back home November 6th against Akron and again November 11th and 12th against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
