
Men's Swim & Dive Earn Six Event Wins Over IUPUI, Xavier

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Ball State men's swimming and diving team fell in double-dual action Friday evening to Xavier and host IUPUI, in partner with the Ball State women's swimming and diving team. The Cardinals marked 116.5 points to Xavier's 170.5, and fell in a 201-96 final to the Jaguars.
Overall, the Cardinals captured two event victories over IUPUI, including an additional four over Xavier.
Junior Tanner Barton touched the wall first overall in the 200 butterfly with a 1:52.60 final, while junior Bradley Ridge trailed narrowly behind at 1:55.18. Ridge then went on to cinch an overall individual event win in the 100 fly with a 50.51 final, while Barton marked a 50.64 time for second over IUPUI, and third against Xavier in the same event.
Earning a top finish over Xavier in the 100 backstroke was sophomore Nate Slack, who clocked a 53.88 final. The time was also good enough to earn second to IUPUI's Aaron Brysch (50.89) in the same race.
Rounding out the top swim finishes on the day was sophomore Andrew Carlson, who touched the wall in 47.57, which earned an event win for the Cardinals over Xavier, while the final finished fourth to IUPUI.
In diving action, freshman Lane Sawyer posted a score of 189.00 in one-meter competition, paired with a score of 178.20 from the three-meter. Fellow freshman Gabe Dean tallied a 163.73 mark from the one-meter, followed by a 173.78 score in three-meter action.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team picks up conference action again on Saturday, Jan. 16 when it welcomes Eastern Michigan to the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The event is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
